Sioux City 15, Fargo-Moorhead 3 – Box
The Sioux City Explorers put on an offensive show tonight at Lewis & Clark Park as they pounded out 21 hits en route to a 15-3 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Every hitter in the Sioux City lineup collected at least one hit with eight of the nine having multi-hit games. Explorers DH Peter Barrows had a sensational game going 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and five RBI. Sioux City 2B Andres Perez went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and two RBI while the 1-2 hitters of LF Oscar Mesa and CF Tim Colwell combined to score seven runs in the contest. Sioux City hurler John Straka picked up his sixth win allowing three earned runs on eight hits in eight innings pitched.
Grand Prairie 6, Lincoln 3 – Box
Grand Prairie scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning that broke a 3-3 tie and lifted the AirHogs to a 6-3 win over the Lincoln Saltdogs. Grand Prairie had 16 hits on the night and was led by C Vince DiFazio who went 4-for-5 with three doubles, a run scored and two RBI. Five other batters had two-hit games for the AirHogs, including 1B/RF Frazier Hall who went 2-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored. Grand Prairie starting pitcher Jason Jarvis tossed a solid eight innings en route to his sixth win of the season. Jarvis gave up three earned runs on eight hits and had five strikeouts.
Winnipeg 10, Sioux Falls 7 – Box
The Winnipeg Goldeyes rolled out to a 6-0 lead after two innings and would cruise from there to a 10-7 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries. Winnipeg 1B Casey Haerther was terrific at the plate going 4-for-5 with a home run. The Goldeyes 1-2 hitters of 2B Brock Bond and RF Josh Mazzola combined for four hits, including a home run from Mazzola, four runs scored and four RBI. Winnipeg starter Ethan Hollingsworth had plenty of offensive support tonight and improved his mark to a perfect 6-0 on the season with the win. Hollingsworth allowed three runs, all earned, on five hits in 7 2/3 innings pitched. For Sioux Falls in defeat, 1B A.J. Kirby-Jones drove in four runs and launched his 14th home run of the season.
Kansas City 8, Gary SouthShore 3 – Box
Trailing 3-0 after six innings, the Kansas City T-Bones roared back with eight runs over the next two innings, including six in the eighth, to down the Gary SouthShore RailCats, 8-3. Kansas City 2B Danny Richar had three hits on the night and plated a run. T-Bones DH Nick Schwaner went 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI while LF Bryan Sabatella collected two hits, scored two runs and had a RBI. T-Bones reliever Pat Doyle evened his record at 4-4 on the season with the victory. Doyle went 1 1/3 innings and gave up only a walk while fanning two batters.
Wichita 9, St. Paul 3 – Box
The Wichita Wingnuts scored early and often in this one as they rolled out to a 7-0 lead after three innings and would go on to a 9-3 victory over the St. Paul Saints. Wichita had 15 hits in the game and was led at the top by the 1-2 hitters of SS Ryan Khoury and 2B Jake Kahaulelio. The duo combined to go 5-for-9 at the plate with three runs scored and four RBI. Wingnuts C Chris McMurray had four hits in five at-bats and LF Jake Luce drove in three runs. Wichita starting pitcher Tim Brown notched his eighth victory as he gave up an earned run on eight hits in six innings of work.
Laredo 11, Amarillo 7 – Box
Laredo scored a run in the sixth inning to break a 6-6 tie and opened up the game with four more runs in the eighth as they defeated Amarillo by an 11-7 score. Lemurs 2B Travis Denker and 1B John Alonso each had two-hit games with the both of them combining to drive in five runs. Laredo’s 1-2 batters of CF Nick Van Stratten and RF Denis Phipps combined to plate six runs in the game. Lemurs reliever Scott Weismann earned his first win as he tossed two shutout innings giving up a hit and striking out one batter. For Amarillo in the loss, 2B Geraldo Valentin had three hits and two RBI.
