LINCOLN, Nebraska -- Thursday, for the 3rd consecutive evening at Haymarket Park, the Lincoln Saltdogs earned a walkoff win for the AirHogs. Cesar Valera’s RBI base hit in the 9th scored Trever Adams and helped Lincoln to another stunning win, 4-3.
Carlos Contreras turned in a solid start for Texas, going 6 while limiting Lincoln to just 2 runs. An RBI single by Beamer Weems to score Trevor Sealey in the 1st built him an early 1-0 lead that stood until Ivan Marin gave the Saltdogs their 1st advantage with a 2-RBI single in the 5th.
Following Marin’s base hit, the AirHogs quickly re-seized the advantage. Sealey and Weems each picked up RBIs in the 6th to help Texas to a 3-2 advantage. Dashenko Ricardo evened the score in the 7th with a home run off Mark Pope, who exited shortly after with an injury.
After pitching a scoreless 8th, Roman Gomez surrendered 3 hits in the 9th, including the game-winner by Valera. The single sent the AirHogs to a season-high 5th consecutive loss. Trevor Sealey finished with 3 hits in the game. The Saltdogs have now won 5 straight and improved to 7-6 with the win.
The AirHogs enjoy a day off Thursday before opening a 3-game weekend set in Cleburne Friday at 7:06 pm. The meeting will be the 1st between the 2 clubs in the regular season. RHP Scott Firth is expected to start Game 1 for Texas. A live broadcast of the game will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs.
