GRAND PRAIRIE -- The Texas AirHogs fell in another 1-run contest vs. the Wichita Wingnuts at AirHogs Stadium 4-3 Friday night. Michael Miller finished with 3 hits and a home run in the game.
The AirHogs tagged Wichita starter Ryan Kussmaul for 3 runs in the 1st 3 innings. Denis Phipps picked up 2 RBIs by scoring Alvaro Rondon in each the 1st and the 3rd. Miller smashed his 1st homer of the season in the 2nd with 2 outs.
James Russell got the start for the AirHogs and went 6 innings, scattering 8 hits while surrendering a 2-out run in the 4th and another in the 6th. Martin Medina picked up both RBIs, and Matt Chavez scored both runs to help Wichita trim the lead to 3-2 going to the 7th.
TJ Bozeman surrendered the lead and go-ahead run in the 7th. The righty issued 1-out walks to Harrison Kain and Christian Stringer. Kain would later score on a wild pitch, while Stringer came in as the go-ahead on a base hit by Brent Clevlen.
The AirHogs now stand at 1-7 in 1-run games this season. The multi-hit performance was the 1st of the season for Miller. Alvaro Rondon scored twice and finished with 1 hit and 2 walks while also stealing his American Association-leading 12th base of the season. The loss was the team’s 13th straight.
Kussmaul picked up his 2nd win of the season, while Bozeman suffered his 1st loss. Mike Devine earned his 1st save by pitching a scoreless 9th. The AirHogs (4-17) finish the series with Wichita (14-8) tomorrow. RHP Tyler Bremer (1-1, 2.49 ERA) is expected to start for the AirHogs vs. RHP Eddie Medina (2-0, 2.84 ERA) for Wichita. 1st pitch is slated for 7:05 pm.
