GRAND PRAIRIE -- The Texas AirHogs are happy to announce the signing of veteran infielder Jake Taylor. A longtime pro, Taylor played for the Grand Prairie AirHogs in 2011, hitting .266 with 4 home runs and 25 RBIs.
A native of Orange, California, Taylor played collegiately at Chaffey College before joining the Frontier League in 2010. He debuted in the American Association in 2011 and played with Sioux Falls, St. Paul and Joplin from 2012 through 2016. He played for AirHogs hitting coach Shelby Ford while Ford was interim manager in Sioux Falls in 2016. After starting the season with the Canaries, he has joined the AirHogs in the run-up to the team’s 7-game road trip to Winnipeg and Sioux City.
A career .273 hitter, Taylor appeared in 65 games season last year for the Canaries, hitting 12 home runs and racking up 38 RBIs. In 8 seasons of professional baseball, he has accumulated 139 extra-base hits and 214 career RBIs.
The AirHogs have also signed for Yankees minor leaguer Evan Rutckyj. An 8-season pro like Taylor, Rutckyj owns a career 32-25 record and an ERA of 4.31 while playing for New York affiliates in the GCL, Tampa, Charleston, Staten Island, and Trenton. A native of Windsor, Ontario, he is expected to join the team when it begins its upcoming 4-game series at Shaw Park vs. the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
Texas wraps its 6-game homestand tonight vs. the Wichita Wingnuts and will begin a 7-game road trip Monday at 7:00 pm in Winnipeg.
