GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – The 2012 season ended on a high note for the Grand Prairie AirHogs, with an 8-2 win over the Amarillo Sox on Monday afternoon at QuikTrip Park, completing a sweep and a 53-47 season that ended one game shy of the playoffs.
Kenny Held was the star of the day for the AirHogs, playing all nine positions and going 3-for-4 with an RBI at the plate, pitching a 1-2-3 inning to finish the game off.
Josh Strawn (7-5) pitched seven innings of solid baseball to get the win, allowing five hits, three walks and one unearned run. Derrick Miramontes allowed a run in the eighth before Held finished things up, getting Matt Lackie swinging on three pitches to end it.
After stranding the bases loaded with no outs in the first, Grand Prairie went to work on Ryan Mitchell (8-5) again in the second, scoring five times, starting with a two-run home run by Jonny Kaplan. They added four more in the fourth and cruised on from there, with Trent Lockwood picking up four RBIs and Brian Myrow going 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored to finish the season with a .364 batting average – second in the league.
Held started the game behind the plate, worked through the infield first before playing the three outfield positions and finishing on the mound.
