GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The AirHogs erased a 3-0 deficit before ultimately falling to the Joplin Blasters 6-5 Friday at AirHogs Stadium. Burt Reynolds finished with 3 hits and 3 RBI.
Matt Shepherd got the ball to start for the AirHogs and surrendered an early run in the top of the 1st on 2 hits and a double steal that scored Mitch Glasser. The Blasters would add a pair more on an AirHogs error and an RBI single by Charlie Valerio in the 3rd to go up 3-0.
But the AirHogs quickly rebounded. Shortstop Juan Sanchez blasted his 6th home run of the year off Joplin starter Alex De La Cruz to make it 3-1 in the bottom of the 3rd. Reynolds came through with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 4th, driving in 2 with a base hit to tie the game at 3.
In the bottom of the 6th, the AirHogs once again loaded the bases for Reynolds. Joplin reliever Jose Ortega would proceed to issue Reynolds an HBP to score Cody Lenahan. Michael Hur scored shortly thereafter on a sacrifice fly by Austin Gallagher.
The Blasters equalized in the 7th on a 2-RBI base hit by Glasser that scored Jesus Solorzano and Sergio Leon. One run was credited to starter Shepherd and the other to Tyler Ihrig.
Ihrig surrendered another run in the 8th, this time on a base hit by Cory Morales that scored Charlie Valerio. The tally put the Blasters ahead 6-5, and they held on to the advantage despite the AirHogs boarding a total of 6 in the last 2 turns at bat.
The AirHogs (14-20) and the Blasters (14-20) close the series tomorrow with a Saturday doubleheader at AirHogs Stadium starting at 5:05 pm. RHP Cody Hebner and RHP Tyler Harris are expected to start for the AirHogs. Each game is scheduled for 7 innings.
