Wichita Takes Game 2 Of 4-Game Set

06/28/2016 9:03 PM -

WICHITA, Kansas - The AirHogs fell for the 2nd straight evening in Wichita Tuesday, going down by a final of 6-2. The Wingnuts scored twice in the 4th, 5th, and 6th to notch their 2nd win of the series.

The AirHogs got off to a good start. Righty Sam Martin faced just 11 through his 1st 3 innings. Burt Reynolds broke a scoreless contest in the 4th with a leadoff home run off Wichita starter Tim Brown. The home run was the 16th of the season for the AirHogs left fielder. The shot to center made it 1-0.

But the Wingnuts answered right back with a 2-run home run off the bat of catcher Martin Medina in the bottom of the 4th. They would add a pair more in the 5th on a 2-out, 2-RBI single by 1st baseman Dustin Geiger to make it 4-1.

In the 6th, the AirHogs got a run back on an RBI single by Austin Gallagher that scored Reynolds for the 2nd time in the game and the 35th time this season. With Devon Rodriguez on 3rd and 1 out, 3rd baseman Leon Byrd sent a fly to left that Rodriguez tried to score on. He was caught at the plate though by left fielder TJ Mittelstaedt and Medina to keep the AirHogs down 4-2.

Wichita boarded 2 against Martin in the 6th and scored both on RBI hits by Zack Cox and Brent Clevelen with Paxton Bartley pitching. That was all the home side would need, as reliever Jesse Pratt held the AirHogs scoreless over the final 3 frames to seal the win.

Tim Brown improved to 4-2 with the win. Martin (2-2) absorbed the loss. Pratt picked up his 1st save by firing the final 3 frames in scoreless fashion.

The Wingnuts (22-15) and the AirHogs (16-22) meet again tomorrow. Start time is slated for 7:05 pm. RHP Matt Shepherd (1-3, 4.37) is expected to start for the AirHogs. RHP Alex Boshers (3-2, 3.37) is expected to start for the Wingnuts.
