GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The American Association and the Texas AirHogs are proud to announce that outfielder Burt Reynolds and 2nd baseman Brian Bistagne have been selected as starters in the American Association All-Star Game in St. Paul August 2nd.
“I’m excited for both Burt and Brian to be able to play for [South Division manager] Pete Incaviglia at the upcoming All-Star Game,” said AirHogs manager James Frisbie. “It’s a great event, and it should give them some exposure. They both deserve to be there. I know they will represent the AirHogs well.”
Reynolds leads the Association in home runs (18), as well as slugging percentage (.631). He was the first Association player to reach 100 total bases this season. He is the team leader or co-leader in a number of categories at the halfway point this season, including home runs, RBIs, runs scored, extra-base hits, slugging percentage, stolen bases and total bases.
His extraordinary power numbers have him on pace to challenge and potentially break the all-time single season Association home run record of 30 set by CJ Ziegler (Wichita) in 2013. He is expected to participate in the American Association Home Run Derby August 1st.
Skipper Pete Incaviglia has also selected Brian Bistagne as his team’s starting 2nd baseman. A native of Glendale, California, Bistagne has been one of the hottest bats in the Association to start the season. The middle infielder is currently hitting .301 with 7 HR and 22 RBIs. He has racked up 89 total bases to start the season, and he and Reynolds are tied for the AirHogs team lead in stolen bases with 7 each.
Bistagne reached base safely in 14 straight games to start the season. He owns 20 multi-hit games and has started all of the AirHogs’ 56 contests so far in 2016.
Reynolds and Bistagne will start for the South Division All-Star side, which will also be comprised of selections from the Can-Am League. Pete Incaviglia, skipper of the Laredo Lemurs, will manage the team, with Jamie Keefe of the Rockland Boulders assisting.
The American Association All-Star festivities will begin August 1st at CHS Field in St. Paul. The home run derby is expected to begin at 8:00 pm. A live broadcast will be available through American Association TV (www.americanassociationbaseball.tv).
The All-Star Game will begin at 7:00 pm on August 2nd. A live broadcast will be available on Fox Sports North Plus as well as through American Association TV.
The AirHogs will return to action following the break at Sioux Falls on August 4th.
