GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The AirHogs dropped their series finale to the Wichita Wingnuts 6-1 Thursday at AirHogs Stadium. Devon Rodriguez finished with an RBI and the AirHogs bullpen fired 4 scoreless innings to end the game, but the Wingnuts wrapped the series with the victory.
Cody Hebner got the ball to start for the AirHogs and worked his way through an uneven outing. He surrendered a leadoff triple to Christian Stringer in the 1st that led to a first run in the ballgame before striking out the side in the 2nd. He was tagged for 3 hits and 4 runs in the 3rd, including 2 on an RBI triple by Brent Clevelen, before retiring the side in order in the 4th and being tagged for a run on 1 hit and 2 errors by his defense in the 5th.
David Wayne Russo, Roman Madrid, Tyler Ihrig, Trey Masek, and Tyler Harris combined to hold the Wingnuts scoreless from the 6th through the 9th, continuing strong work by the AirHogs bullpen in the series. In 3 games, the relief corps allowed just 1 run over 9 2/3 innings vs. one of the Association's top offenses.
Rodriguez picked up his RBI in the bottom half of the 4th off Wichita starter Alex Boshers. The base hit to left scored Leon Byrd and briefly trimmed the Wichita lead to 5-1. But that was all the AirHogs managed against Boshers, who fired 8 frames and held the bats to 5 singles while inducing 3 double plays.
The win was the 6th of the year for Boshers, and the loss the 7th for Hebner. The AirHogs (21-38) enjoy an off day Friday before welcoming the Sioux Falls Canaries (20-38) to town for a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 4 pm. RHP Sam Martin and RHP Carlos Misell are expected to start the series openers vs. Sioux Falls at AirHogs Stadium.
