AMARILLO, Texas - The AirHogs defeated the Joplin Blasters 6-4 in Game 1 of a doubleheader at Potter County Memorial Stadium Tuesday. Game 2 was suspended in the 6th with Joplin leading 5-1.
AirHogs starter David Wayne Russo allowed 4 home runs on 3 combined home runs to Mitch Glasser and Geraldo Valentin but was also able to strike out 4 and induce 2 inning-ending double plays to get his 3 win of the season in Game 1. Juan Sanchez drove in 3 of the runs (2 on his 11th home run of the season) and Cory Morales, Devon Rodriguez and Kenny Peoples-Walls all were able to reach 3 times to power the win.
The AirHogs trailed 4-1 before exploding for 5 runs to seize the lead in the bottom of the 4th. Trey Masek and Alan Oaks relieved Russo and fired scoreless 6th and 7th frames to seal the win. The save was the 7th of the season for Oaks.
The AirHogs got out to an early lead in Game 2, with Cody Lenahan blasting off for his 11th home run of the season in the 2nd against Joplin starter Mario Morales.
The Blasters responded with 3 runs in a top of the 3rd extended by 2 AirHogs errors. They were aided by 2 more AirHogs miscues in the 5th and added 2 more off AirHogs starter Derek Callahan before play was suspended due to an ongoing electrical problem at the stadium.
Play in Game 2 will pick up in the 6th tomorrow with the Blasters leading 5-1 at 10:05 am. Game 3 will follow after the action goes final. RHP Diego Ibarra is expected to start for the AirHogs.
