WICHITA, Kansas - The AirHogs fell to the Wichita Wingnuts 7-1 in the opener of a 3-game set Friday at Lawrence Dumont Stadium. Michael Valadez and Kenny Peoples-Walls combined to reach 4 times, but the team dropped its 9th contest this year to the Wingnuts.
Carlos Misell started for the AirHogs and was tagged for 5 runs on 5 hits in a rocky first inning. Harrison Kain went deep for Wichita to punctuate the high-scoring opening frame.
The AirHogs got 1 back against Wichita starter Tyler Kane in the 3rd, when Cory Morales drove in Valadez with a sacrifice fly. But Wichita responded immediately in the bottom half of the 3rd, scoring twice on an RBI double by Zack Cox.
Cody Culp, Jack Karraker and Tyler Harris combined to throw 4 innings of 0-run,1-hit ball after Misell exited the game in the 5th, but the AirHog bats were held to just 7 hits by Kane and the Wichita bullpen.
Kane, a recent signee from the Marlins organization, picked up his 1st win, while Misell absorbed the loss. The AirHogs (32-58) and the Wingnuts (55-35) meet againtomorrow at 7:05. LHP Griffin Russell is expected to start for the AirHogs.
