WICHITA, Kansas - The AirHogs bounced back Saturday vs. Wichita, downing the Wingnuts 4-2 behind a strong start from Griffin Russell. The team will go for the series victory tomorrow at 1:05.
The bats got going early for Texas, with Devon Rodriguez picking up an RBI single in the 1st off Wichita starter Tim Brown. After the Wingnuts evened the score at 1 on a pair of doubles in the 2nd, the AirHogs reclaimed the advantage in the 4th on an RBI triple by Kenny Peoples-Walls and an RBI single by Brian Bistagne.
Russell worked 6 frames, allowing just 6 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 5. He turned the ball over to Jack Karraker in the 7th with the AirHogs leading 3-2.Karraker allowed a pair of singles to start the bottom half of the 7th but emerged unscathed with the help of a key 6-4-3 double play, one of two in the ballgame started by Juan Sanchez.
The AirHogs got insurance off Wichita relief man Frankie Reed in the 9th, with Devon Rodriguez reaching for a 4th time on a 2-out RBI double to score Bistagne.Trey Masek and Alan Oaks combined to face just 7 in the 8th and 9th to seal the win. The save was the 8th of the year for Oaks, while the win was the 3rd of the year for Russell.
The AirHogs (33-58) will look to sew up the series tomorrow afternoon behind LHP David Wayne Russo at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
