AMARILLO, Texas - The AirHogs fell to the Sioux City Explorers in Game 3 of a 4-game set at Potter County Memorial Stadium Sunday. The Explorers used 3 home runs to run away with a 10-4 win. The AirHogs close their season tomorrow.
Diego Ibarra started for the AirHogs and surrendered 3 runs on 5 hits in the 1st. The AirHogs struck back in the bottom of the 2nd vs. Sioux City Explorer Jake Kuebler, using a 2-RBI single by Mike Miller to trim the lead to 3-2.
Sioux City brought the lead to 4-2 on an inside the park home run by Tim Colwell in the 3rd and then turned a 4-3 lead into a 6-3 lead on a home run by Tom Mendonca in the 6th. Ibarra would take his 4th loss after allowing 7 runs and 13 hits over 6 ⅔ innings.
PJ Francescon took over for Kuebler in the 5th and allowed just 1 run over 3 frames to earn his 5th win. Sioux City tagged Jack Karraker and Tyler Harris for 3 runs over the final 2 innings to seal the win. Ino Patron blasted the 3rd home run of the day for the Explorers off Karraker in the 8th.
Leon Byrd reached 4 times in the game for the AirHogs with 3 walks and a single. Cory Morales, Kenny Peoples-Walls and Brian Bistagne each reached 3 times. Bistagne picked up his 100th hit of the season with a base hit to score Peoples-Walls in the 6th.
The win clinches the Central Division for the visitors. The AirHogs (34-64) will close out the season with Sioux City (53-46) tomorrow at 2:05. The season finale will be Fan Appreciation Day at Potter County Memorial Stadium. All tickets will be $1.
