AMARILLO, Texas - The AirHogs dropped their season finale to the Sioux City Explorers 9-3 Monday. Kenny Peoples-Walls went deep in the contest, and Juan Sanchez picked up his 100th hit on a 7th-inning single.
The AirHogs got out to an early lead on a pair of doubles by Michael Hur and Cody Lenahan to make it 1-0 in the bottom of the 1st.
AirHogs starter Derek Callahan allowed just 1 run over his first 5 innings. Peoples-Walls' solo blast in the bottom of the 5th put the AirHogs up 2-1. The home run was the first of the season for Peoples-Walls.
The Sioux City bats came to life from the 6th through the 9th. They tagged Callahan for 5 runs in the 6th and 7th and relief man Trey Masek for 3 in the 9th to put the game out of reach. The Explorers were led by Association Player of the Year Nate Samson, who finished with 2 extra-base hits and 3 runs scored.
Hasten Freeman picked up his 1st win by pitching 5 frames of 2-run ball. Callahan suffered his 5th loss.
The AirHogs conclude the season 34-65. The Explorers will open the first round of the American Association postseason Wednesday at home vs. Wichita.
