TOP DEFENSIVE INFIELDER TO BE DIFFERENCE MAKER FOR AIRHOGS
AirHogs Sign Beamer Weems; Opening Day Set for May 18
GRAND PRAIRIE,Texas – Opening Day for the Texas AirHogs is set for May 18 at AirHogs Stadium and fans can expect to see great defensive plays from their latest addition to the 2017 roster.
With the signing of shortstop and second baseman, Beamer Weems, the AirHogs look to add versatility to the infield. Weems was drafted in the eighth round by the San Diego Padres from Baylor University. During his time with the Padres (2008-2012), Baseball America named Weems as the Best Defensive Infielder three times (2009, 2010, 2011). In 2015, the AirHogs infielder continued his journey in the Texas Rangers’ farm system with the Frisco Roughriders and the Round Rock Express. In 2016, Weems won the Atlantic League Championship with the Sugar Land Skeeters.
“I am proud to have a player of Beamer’s caliber and character become a part of this organization,” AirHogs Manager Billy Martin Jr. said. “This group of players has so much talent that I would be surprised if they are still with us by the end of the year, as I’m certain most of them will be signed by affiliated clubs.”
The AirHogs also added young arms to their pitching staff with RHP Devin Malone and Toby Eigner. After playing collegiately for University of Louisiana Monroe, Malone went on to play for minor league teams in the Frontier and Pecos leagues. In 2016, Eigner was a part of the Trinidad Triggers roster in the Pecos League.
Opening Day and single-game tickets for the 2017 season are available for purchase online now. For the latest information on the Texas AirHogs follow them on Facebook and visit AirHogsBaseball.com.
