GRAND PRAIRIE -- The Texas AirHogs dropped their 2nd contest of the year Friday to Fargo-Moorhead by a final of 8-3. Levi Scott finished 3 for 4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in the loss.
The AirHogs got out to an early lead in the 2nd, using an RBI sac fly by Ryan Wagner to score Scott. Starter Tyler Bremer held Fargo scoreless for the 1st 3 innings, but the Redhawks rallied with 2 outs in the 4th, scoring twice on RBI base hits by Yhoxian Medina and Ryan Pineda.
Texas quickly responded with a run in the 4th on an RBI single by Trevor Sealey to score Alvaro Rondon, who singled and stole a base with 2 outs. The team regained the lead in the 5th, with Jake Luce crossing on an RBI base hit by Scott.
In the 6th, the Redhawks evened the score vs. reliever Billy Waltrip before the game was paused for approximately 35 minutes due to severe weather. When the teams returned to play, the visitors tacked on 2 more with Jacob Morris on the mound to take a 5-3 advantage. A home run by Medina off of Morris in the 7th extended the lead to 7-3. The AirHogs bullpen struggled with control in the late frames, with the staff walking 11 batters in total.
Waltrip took the loss, his 1st of the season, while Fargo starter Jose Almarante, who pitched 5 innings of 2 earned-run ball, got the win. Jose Nivar picked up his 1st save of the season by entering a 7-3 contest with 2 on in the 8th.
Texas (0-2) and Fargo (2-0) meet again tomorrow at AirHogs Stadium. RHP Carlos Contreras is scheduled to start for the AirHogs vs. LHP Cesilio Pimentel for the Redhawks. 1st pitch is slated for 7:05 pm.
