AirHogs Can't Overcome Impressive Fargo Pitching In Game 3

05/20/2017 10:16 PM -

GRAND PRAIRIE -- The Texas AirHogs were shut out for the 1st time this season Friday at AirHogs Stadium, falling to the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks 5-0. The 2 teams close their season-opening 4-game series tomorrow at 6:05.

Fargo tagged AirHogs starter Carlos Contreras for 3 hits and a run in the 1st before igniting a 2-out rally for 4 more in the 3rd. KD Kang picked up an RBI single in the 1st and then added an RBI double in the 3rd to fuel the early 5-0 lead.

The advantage was more than enough for Redhawks starter Cesilio Pimentel, who spun a masterful game on the mound. The lefty starter carved out 8 innings of 3-hit, no run ball. He struck out 8 while allowing only base hits to Levi Scott, Trevor Sealey and Brian Ragira. The AirHogs were unable to bat more than 4 against Pimentel or closer Will Solomon.

After Contreras struggled through the 3rd, he rebounded by posting a scoreless 4th. Billy Waltrip began a string of 5 straight scoreless innings for the Texas bullpen by blanking Fargo in the 6th and the 7th. Michael Freeman also pitched 2 scoreless innings of relief, striking out 3, before Mark Pope held the Redhawks off in the 9th.

The teams complete the opening set of 2017 tomorrow at AirHogs Stadium. RHP Scott Firth is expected to go on the mound for the AirHogs while LHP Michael O’Neal will get the start for Fargo. 1st pitch is slated for 6:05 pm. The AirHogs will welcome Wichita to Grand Prairie starting Monday.
