LINCOLN, Nebraska -- It was another stunning defeat for the AirHogs at Haymarket Park Tuesday as the team fell on a walkoff home run for the 2nd night in a row. Randolph Oduber was the evening’s hero. He teed off for a 2-run shot in the 11th to help the home team steal a 4-3 win.
Starter Tyler Bremer turned in 7 innings of 5-hit, shutout ball for the AirHogs. Denis Phipps built him an early lead with a 2-run home run of his own in the 1st. Saltdogs starter Bennett Parry buckled down after surrendering Phipps’ 1st homer of the season, holding the AirHogs scoreless for the next 8 innings.
After Josh Blanco turned in a scoreless 8th, Luis De La Cruz tried to lock down his 3rd save in the bottom half of the 9th. De La Cruz surrendered a walkoff homer to Brandon Jacobs in Game 1, and once again it was Jacobs who got him in Game 2. With no one out and Oduber on 1st, Jacobs sent a homer to center to tie the game at 2-2 and force extras.
AirHogs relief man Jacob Morris fired a 1-2-3 10th to keep the contest tied at 2. A sacrifice fly by Cameron Monger helped the AirHogs take a 3-2 lead in the top half of the 11th. Morris reappeared in the 11th and surrendered a walk to Ivan Marin before Oduber took him deep to end the game.
The AirHogs fell to 1-1 in extra-inning games with the loss. Texas (4-8) and the Saltdogs (6-6) close the series tomorrow at 6:45. MLB vet Carlos Contreras is slated to get the start for the AirHogs vs. RHP Derek Gordon for Lincoln. A live broadcast will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs.
