Winnipeg Draws Level With Game 2 Win

WINNIPEG -- The Winnipeg Goldeyes evened the series vs. the AirHogs at Shaw Park Tuesday, taking Game 2 by a final of 11-2. Michael Miller finished with 3 hits, and the AirHogs once again reached 10 hits as a team, but the Goldeyes used 11 unanswered runs to overcome an early deficit.

Starter Scott Firth put away 8 straight to start the morning contest. The AirHogs built him an early lead. Michael Miller notched an RBI double in the 2nd to score Cameron Monger, and Brian Ragira added an RBI base hit in the 3rd that scored Levi Scott to help the team to a 2-0 advantage. Ragira reached base 3 times in the game and has reached successfully 7 times in the series.

The Goldeyes used a pair of infield base hits and an error to get on the board in the 3rd. They added 2 more in the 4th before Shawn Pleffner helped them to a 5-2 lead with a 2-RBI double in the 5th. Firth lasted 5, surrendering 5 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits while striking out 4. Billy Waltrip pitched 2 scoreless innings in relief before the Goldeyes got to newcomer Earl Burl for 6 runs in the 8th.

Edwin Carl picked up the win for Winnipeg by going 6, scattering 8 hits and allowing 2 runs (1 earned). The W was his 2nd of the season. The loss was the 4th for Firth. Pleffner finished with 3 hits, including a home run off of Burl, and 6 RBIs in the game. Monger joined Miller and Ragira as the multi-hit producers for the AirHogs. Texas stranded 8 baserunners in the game.


The AirHogs (5-19) and the Goldeyes (15-9) continue their series at Shaw Park tomorrow. LHP Michael Freeman (0-1, 3.44 ERA) is expected to get the start for the AirHogs vs. LHP Zack Dodson (2-1, 5.96 ERA) for the Goldeyes. 1st pitch is slated for 7:05 pm.
