WINNIPEG, MB -- The Texas AirHogs downed the Winnipeg Goldeyes 4-2 Wednesday evening at Shaw Park behind 4 hits from Levi Scott and a strong start by Michael Freeman. The team will look to win the series tomorrow at 7 pm behind RHP Tyler Bremer.
Freeman went 6, throwing over 110 pitches in his longest outing of the year. In just the 3rd start of his professional career, he surrendered 7 hits and struck out 6 while limiting the Goldeyes to 2 runs scored in the 2nd.
The AirHogs erased the early 2-0 deficit in the 4th. Scott led off with a double and later scored on a wild pitch by Winnipeg southpaw Zack Dodson. Cameron Monger drew a 2-out walk, stole 2nd and came in on an RBI single by Beamer Weems to even the score at 2. Dodson, the Goldeyes starter, went 7, giving up 8 hits and 2 runs while striking out 4. Like Freeman, he got a no-decision.
AirHogs reliever TJ Bozeman escaped a 2-on, 0-out jam in the bottom of the 7th by inducing a key double play. The bats got him the lead in the 8th on a go-ahead single by Jake Taylor that scored Ryan Wagner. Scott would conclude his 2nd 4-hit game of the series with an RBI in the 9th off Josh Laxer that scored Trevor Sealey. Sealey finished with 3 hits in the game.
Josh Blanco picked up his 2nd save of the set and 2nd of the year by pitching a scoreless 9th. Victor Capellan suffered the loss, dropping his season record to 0-2. Bozeman improved to 2-1 by picking up the W.
4 AirHogs finished with multi-hit games vs. 2 for the Goldeyes. Each team left 9 on base. Scott has now reached base successfully in 24 of 25 games to start the season and in 17 games in a row.
Texas (6-19) looks to take the series tomorrow vs. Winnipeg (15-10) with RHP Tyler Bremer (1-2, 4.78 ERA) on the mound vs. Goldeyes righty Mikey O’Brien (2-2, 6.00 ERA). 1st pitch is scheduled for 7 pm. A live broadcast of the game will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs.
