GRAND PRAIRIE -- The Texas AirHogs are happy to announce the re-signing of pitchers Austin Kubitza and Jared Mortensen. Both hurlers have joined the active roster.
Kubitza, a 25-year-old Arlington native, signed with the AirHogs this offseason and participated in the team’s spring training before his contract was purchased by the Seattle Mariners. The righty reported to the Double-A Arkansas Travelers, where he accumulated 14.1 innings across 10 appearances.
A 2013 4th round selection of the Detroit Tigers, Kubitza has a career 23-21 record and a 4.46 ERA. He is an alum of Colleyville Heritage High School and Rice University, where he pitched from 2011-2013. At Rice, he posted a 20-14 record with a 3-year collegiate career ERA of 2.33.
RHP Jared Mortensen debuted for the AirHogs on June 8th at home vs. Wichita. Recently re-signed, both he and Kubitza pitched for Texas in last night’s 9-1 loss vs. Cleburne. A native of Abbotsford, BC, Mortensen pitched for the Grand Prairie AirHogs in 2013, going 4-6 with a 3.77 ERA. He pitched in the Tampa Bay Rays organization for 4 years before joining the Houston Astros system earlier in 2017.

In 429.1 innings of career professional work, he has racked up 393 strikeouts. As a pro across 5 seasons, the 29-year-old is 29-23 with a 4.28 ERA.
