In the buildup to the 2016 season, the AirHogs have signed Anderson Hidalgo, a former member of the Twins and Blue Jays organizations who starred for the Lake Erie Crushers of the Frontier League for the past two seasons.
A native of Valencia, Carabobo, Venezuela, the 27-year-old signed with Texas in December. Primarily a second baseman, he also played at 1st, 2nd, short and in the outfield in his two years with the Crushers. Over 171 games in Lake Erie, Hidalgo compiled 185 hits, 11 HR, 96 RBI, and 82 walks. He hit .295 in 2014 and .302 in 2015.
Hidalgo started his pro career as a 17-year-old in the Venezuelan Summer League, playing for teams associated with both the Blue Jays and Twins. Over 10 pro seasons, he has racked up 468 hits and a .290 career batting average.
