WICHITA -- Casio Grider finished with multiple hits, including a solo home run, but the Texas AirHogs dropped Game 3 in Wichita 4-2. The teams close out the series tomorrow at 7:05.
TJ Bozeman got the start for the AirHogs. He allowed 4 runs (4 earned) on 6 hits and 4 walks in 6 frames. He struck out 4 but suffered his 3rd loss of the season. The AirHogs boarded 5 against Wichita starter Eddie Medina in the 1st 2 innings but could not build the starter an early lead. The Wingnuts got out to the early advantage in the bottom of the 2nd when Matt Chevez scored on a Bozeman wild pitch.
Charley Thurber doubled early in the top of the 4th and scored on an RBI single by Trevor Sealey to even the contest at 1-1. The RBI was the 2nd of the series for Sealey and his 7th of the season. Wichita quickly re-seized the advantage though. Richard Prigatano cashed in on a bases loaded opportunity with a single to right that put the home team on top 3-1.
The Wingnuts added another in the 6th after a couple of AirHogs errors to grow the margin to 3. Grider led off the 7th with a solo home run -- his 1st of the season -- off Garrett Gould to make it 4-2, but the AirHogs could get no closer against Wichita relievers Austin Boyle and Mike Devine in the 8th and 9th.
Billy Waltrip allowed just 1 to reach over 2 innings after coming into the contest behind Bozeman. His scoreless relief appearance was his 3rd straight. Bozeman dropped to 2-3 with the loss. The win helped Medina to improve to 5-1. The righty lasted exactly 5 frames and struck out 6 to pick up the W. The save was the 2nd of the season for Devine.
The AirHogs (11-28) go for the series split vs. the Wingnuts (27-12) tomorrow at 7:05. LHP Michael Freeman (1-1, 3.14 ERA) is expected to start for the AirHogs vs. RHP Jordan Cooper (3-0, 1.60 ERA) for Wichita. A live broadcast will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs.
