Rondon's Monster Night Sinks Salina

06/30/2017 10:05 PM -

GRAND PRAIRIE -- Alvaro Rondon racked up 4 hits, 4 stolen bases, 2 runs scored and an RBI to power the AirHogs past the Salina Stockade Friday evening, 3-1. The AirHogs look to clinch the series tomorrow at 11:05 am.

In the 1st, Rondon boarded vs. Salina starter Troy Mannebach with a leadoff single. He moved to 2nd on a wild pitch and scored on the 1st of 2 RBIs in the game by Levi Scott. Tyler Bremer got the start for the AirHogs and protected the early lead through 5. An RBI double by Kewby Meyer to score Troy Paris in the 6th tied at the contest at 1 and sent Bremer to a no-decision despite 6+ innings of 7-hit, 1-run, 5-strikeout ball. Bremer has allowed just 2 runs in his last 13 innings.

Austin Kubitza entered in relief of Bremer in the 7th and ultimately ended up with the W thanks to Rondon, who reached with his 3rd base hit of the evening in the bottom of the 7th vs. Salina relief man Tom Fazzini. Rondon stole 2nd and moved to 3rd on a throwaway to center, the only error of the game for either team. He would proceed to score on a sacrifice fly by Scott and then add an RBI single in the 8th to score Beamer Weems and put the game out of reach.

Kubitza improved to 1-1 with the win. Fazzini dropped to 1-1 with the loss. Luis De La Cruz picked up his 7th save of the season by striking out 2 and recording a 1-2-3 top half of the 9th.

The AirHogs (12-29) tangle with the Stockade (4-37) again tomorrow at 11:05. RHP Jared Mortensen (0-1, 9.00 ERA) is expected to start for the AirHogs vs. LHP Connor Bach (1-3, 7.07 ERA) for Salina. A live broadcast will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs and americanassociationbaseball.tv.
