AirHogs Make It 3 In A Row With 8-7 Win Over Salina

GRAND PRAIRIE -- The Texas AirHogs made it 3 in a row and 6 of 7 with an 8-7 win over the Salina Stockade Friday at AirHogs Stadium. The team will look to clinch the series tomorrow at 7:05.


Casio Grider tripled in the 1st vs. Salina starter Connor Bach before scoring on the 1st of 2 RBI base hits in the game by Levi Scott to make it 1-0. The Stockade tagged AirHogs starter Austin Kubitza for 5 runs in the 3rd and 4th to claim the lead before Scott Firth fired 2 ⅔ innings of scoreless ball in relief.

The AirHogs used 4 hits in the 5th, including a 2-RBI triple by Trevor Sealey and an RBI double by Denis Phipps, to re-take the lead at 6-5. Grider hit an inside-the-park home run in the 7th to expand the advantage to 7-5. The home run was the 3rd of the season for Grider.

Salina's Roche Woodard keyed a 2-run rally with a triple in the top of the 8th vs. Josh Blanco to even the score at 7-7. Brian Ragira and Ryan Wagner each singled in the bottom of the 8th before Ragira scored on 1 of 3 errors in the game for Salina to make it 8-7 Texas.

Luis De La Cruz picked up his 9th save (tied for 3rd in the American Association) by striking out the side in the 9th. The win improved Josh Blanco to 1-1 on the season. The loss dropped Dillon Sunnafrank, who surrendered the unearned run in the 8th, to 1-1.


Michael Miller caught 3 Stockade runners stealing in the contest, a single-game season-high for the catcher with the highest caught-stealing total in the Association. The AirHogs accumulated 2 team triples for the 2nd straight game.


The AirHogs (17-30) continue the series vs. Salina (5-42) tomorrow at 7:05. RHP Jared Mortensen (1-1, 5.79 ERA) is expected to start for Texas vs. RHP Jordan Cummings (0-0, 0.00 ERA) for the Stockade.
