AirHogs Drop Disney Night Contest, Finish Homestand 7-2

07/09/2017 9:37 PM -

GRAND PRAIRIE -- The Texas AirHogs dropped their series finale with Salina by a final score of 5-1 on Disney Night at AirHogs Stadium Sunday. The team will take on the Cleburne Railroaders in a 3-game set at The Depot starting tomorrow.

TJ Bozeman allowed 3 hits and 2 runs in the 1st inning before settling down and allowing 0 runs and just 1 hit from the 2nd through the 7th. RBI singles by Kewby Meyer and Jesse Baker helped Salina to an early 2-0 advantage that they would never relinquish.

Josh Hodges turned in 6 ⅓ innings of 1-run ball on the mound for the visitors. The former Cleburne Railroader earned his 1st win a Salina jersey by scattering 7 hits, striking out 3 and working around 3 walks.

The AirHogs had their chances to break through, only to be thwarted by strong Stockade defense. Jordan Caillouet robbed Brian Ragira of extra bases by snaring a line drive down the 3rd baseline with men on the corners in the 1st. Ryan Wagner was caught at the plate by center fielder Roche Woodard in the 6th for an 8-2 double play following a line drive out by Charley Thurber.

The AirHogs got a tally on the board in the 7th to cut the Salina lead to 2-1. Trevor Sealey picked up the RBI on a sacrifice fly that scored Michael Miller. Again though, the defense held for Salina, with Woodard making a difficult running catch on a flare shot by Wagner to end the frame with 2 aboard.

Salina struck for 2 in the 8th against Josh Blanco and added another in the 9th vs. Scott Firth to ice their 6th win of the season. The Stockade were led by Meyer, who finished 2 for 5 with a run and an RBI. Cody Coffman racked up 2 runs batted in. Ryan Wagner and Alvaro Rondon each had multi-hit games for the AirHogs.

Texas finishes its 9-game homestand with 3 series wins and 7 total victories.

Hodges improved to 1-1 with the win. The loss moved Bozeman to 2-4 this season. Tyler Herr picked up his 2nd save of the year after entering the game in the 8th with the score 4-1 and throwing 2 scoreless innings.

The AirHogs (18-31) begin a series vs. the Cleburne Railroaders (24-26) tomorrow in Cleburne. LHP Michael Freeman is expected to start for the AirHogs (2-1, 3.09 ERA) vs. RHP Alberto Rodriguez (3-1, 1.81 ERA) for the Railroaders. 1st pitch is slated for 7:06 pm.
