GRAND PRAIRIE -- The Texas AirHogs won for the 8th time in 10 games Monday, opening a 3-game series at The Depot vs. the Cleburne Railroaders with a convincing 6-2 win. Casio Grider, Denis Phipps, Brian Ragira, Ryan Wagner and Beamer Weems all reached at least 3 times in the game.
Newly-minted All-Star Michael Freeman got the start for the AirHogs and earned his 3rd win of the season by allowing 2 runs (1 earned) over 7 innings. The lefty struck out 3, walked 2 and allowed just 3 hits before Kevin Hilton and Luis De La Cruz finished the game with a scoreless inning each.
The AirHogs took an early lead in the top of the 3rd when Grider reached on a base hit, stole 2nd and scored on the 1st triple of the season by Levi Scott. The RBI was the 25th of the season for Scott. The Railroaders took advantage of 2 errors in the bottom of the 3rd to level the score. After surrendering the unearned run, Freeman would retire 12 straight.
In the 6th, the AirHogs loaded the bases vs. Railroaders starter Alberto Rodriguez before Bryce Beeler was summoned from the bullpen. Beamer Weems drew a walk vs. Beeler to pick up an RBI before Charley Thurber sent a sacrifice fly to center that scored Brian Ragira to make it 3-1.
Phipps picked up an RBI base hit vs. Beeler in the 7th that scored Grider before Ryan Wagner blew the contest open with his 1st home run of the year, a 2-run blast to left that scored him and Phipps to make it 6-1.
8 of the 9 spots in the order reached for the AirHogs. The win was the 1st in the regular season for the team at The Depot. Texas won a May 16th preseason contest at The Depot but had yet to score another win since.
