CLEBURNE, Texas -- The Texas AirHogs moved to 9-2 in the last 11 games and clinched their 4th straight series behind a masterful start from Tyler Bremer Tuesday at The Depot. Bremer tossed 7 ⅔ innings of 1-run ball to propel Texas to a 5-1 win.
Bremer allowed a base hit to Mitch Glasser in the 1st before matching his season-high by retiring the next 14 batters he faced. Brian Ragira gave the AirHogs a 4th inning lead when he took a 2-strike offering from Cleburne starter Patrick Mincey for a solo home run, his 1st of the year.
The AirHogs extended the advantage in the 6th. Denis Phipps doubled off Mincey before scoring later in the frame on a wild pitch. Hunter Courson capitalized off one of Bremer’s few mistakes in the game in the bottom half of the 6th for a solo homer of his own that cut the AirHogs lead to 2-1, but the Railroaders would get no closer.
In the 9th, facing relief man Cortland Cox, the AirHogs' bats got insurance with the help of Michael Miller and Alvaro Rondon. Miller drove in Charley Thurber, who led the frame off with a walk, with an RBI single before Rondon scored Beamer Weems and Miller with a single up the middle. Rondon finished the game with 4 hits, including a double, and 2 RBIs.
Jacob Morris entered the contest in the bottom of the 8th with the potential tying run aboard and shut down a possible Cleburne rally to preserve the win for Bremer. He tossed a scoreless 9th to complete his 1st save of 2017. The win improved Bremer to 4-4. The loss dropped Mincey, who struck out 5, allowed 2 runs and scattered 8 hits, to 6-3.
The AirHogs (20-31) go for the sweep tomorrow at 7:06 behind LHP Billy Waltrip (0-2, 4.79 ERA), who gets his 1st start of the season. Cleburne (24-28) is expected to throw RHP Jorge Martinez (1-5, 4.80 ERA). A live broadcast of the action will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs.
