SIOUX CITY -- The Texas AirHogs won for the 10th time in 13 games Friday, downing the Sioux City Explorers by a final of 8-4 at Lewis and Clark Park. The AirHogs had 5 different players reach at least 3 times in the contest and boarded multiple baserunners in every inning.

Jared Mortensen got the start for Texas. Multiple early errors helped the Explorers score 4 unearned runs over the 1st 2 innings against him, but Mortensen overcame the early rough patch to retire 12 straight and complete a 6-inning, 4-strikeout, 3-hit performance. The win moved him to 3-1 on the season.

Levi Scott and Denis Phipps each reached 5 times in the contest. Phipps and Beamer Weems each went deep vs. Sioux City starter Hobbs Johnson, who dropped to 3-2 with the loss. Weems’ 2nd inning blast, his 4th of the season, made it 2-2 in the 2nd. Phipps’ 5th home run of the season came in the 5th and gave the AirHogs a 5-4 advantage they would not relinquish.

Brian Ragira reached 4 times in the game and led the AirHogs with 3 hits. He has now extended his hit streak to 7 games, with multi-hit performances in 3 of those games. Weems and Michael Miller each reached 3 times. Every spot reached in the game for the AirHogs. The team scored in 5 of 9 innings, scoring 3 times in the 5th and 5 times from the 5th through the 8th. At least 2 batters got on in every frame.

Jacob Morris, Josh Blanco, Rob Tasin and Luis De La Cruz combined to give up 3 hits and 0 runs in 3 innings of relief work. AirHogs pitching did not surrender an earned run in the game. De La Cruz picked up his 10th save of the season by entering the contest with 2 outs and 2 aboard in the top of the 9th. He threw just 1 pitch to finish off the game. AirHogs pitching faced just 2 over the minimum from the 4th through the 8th.

The AirHogs (21-32) and the Explorers (26-25) meet again tomorrow at 7:05 pm. RHP TJ Bozeman (2-4, 2.89 ERA) will be on the mound for the AirHogs vs. RHP Cody Forsythe (3-4. 5.37 ERA) for Sioux City. 1st pitch is slated for 7:05 pm. A live broadcast will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs.
