GRAND PRAIRIE -- The AirHogs moved to 7-2 against division opponents in the month of July by knocking off the South-leading Wichita Wingnuts 5-4 Tuesday at AirHogs Stadium. Brian Ragira launched a dramatic 8th inning blast to help the team to its 6th 1-run victory of 2017.
Tyler Bremer got the start for the AirHogs and carved out 5 ⅓ innings of 2-run ball. Bremer struck out 5 while walking 4 in a no-decision. He has now surrendered just 5 runs over his last 32 innings pitched.
Trailing 1-0 going to the bottom of the 5th, the AirHog bats suddenly found life against Wichita starter Jordan Cooper. After mustering just 1 hit over the 1st 4 innings, Texas racked up 5 hits to score 4 times and take a 3-run advantage. Trevor Sealey, Casio Grider, Levi Scott and Denis Phipps all picked up RBIs.
Rob Tasin picked up for Bremer mid-way through the 6th. A run credited to Bremer scored with Tasin in the game before he left men on the corners to keep the lead at 2. Jacob Morris fired a scoreless 7th before the Wingnuts got to Josh Blanco in the 8th to even the contest at 4. A 2-RBI double by Medina off Blanco was the 1st extra-base hit of the game to that point. Blanco struck out back-to-back batters to leave 2 in scoring position and keep the game level.
Ragira’s 2nd blast of the season came in the next half-inning. With a 2-1 count, 1 out and no one aboard, he launched a no-doubter to left off Wichita righty Chad Nading to put the AirHogs back in front. Ragira now has a .314 average, 2 home runs and 7 RBIs in the month of July.
Luis De La Cruz finished off the evening with a 1-2-3 9th that featured 2 strikeouts. The save was his 11th of the season. Blanco improved to 2-1 with the win. The loss dropped Nading, who exited the game with an injury shortly after surrendering the go-ahead homer, to 0-1. Every spot in the order had a hit for the AirHogs.
