KANSAS CITY -- The Texas AirHogs fell for a 6th straight game Thursday, dropping Game 3 in Kansas City 6-2. Denis Phipps picked up his 4th RBI in the series but the T-Bones used 3 home runs to clinch the set.
TJ Bozeman got the start for the AirHogs and lasted 5 innings. He surrendered a 1st frame home run to Kevin Keyes that put the T-Bones in front 2-0. Keyes would take him deep again in the 5th for a solo blast that gave the league leader 18 long balls on the season.
After falling behind 2-0 in the 1st, Texas struck back in the 2nd vs. Kansas City starter Scott Carroll. Charley Thurber singled to start the frame before Ryan Wagner doubled him to 3rd. Beamer Weems scored Thurber with a sacrifice fly to center to make it 2-1.
An RBI double by Phipps in the 5th brought the AirHogs within 5-2, but a home run by Cedric Hunter vs. reliever Austin Kubitza put the contest out of reach in the 6th. Kubitza rebounded by pitching a scoreless 7th, and Leuris Gomez debuted for the AirHogs with a scoreless 8th that featured 2 strikeouts, but the Texas bats could muster little late.
Carroll struck out 9 over 7 innings to improve to 6-3 on the season. Bozeman slipped to 3-5 with the loss. 8 of 9 spots reached in the game for Kansas City, who lengthened their wild card lead to 1.5 games over division rival Gary with the W.
The AirHogs (25-39) and the T-Bones (37-26) close the series tomorrow. LHP Michael Freeman will start for Texas vs. RHP Chris Perry for Kansas City. A live stream of the game will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs.
