KANSAS CITY -- The Texas AirHogs dropped the series finale in Kansas City Saturday by a final of 2-1 in 10 innings. Michael Freeman posted 7 scoreless innings, but the T-Bones launched a late comeback before taking the contest in the 1st extra frame.
Freeman was excellent all evening, accumulating 7 scoreless in a start for the 2nd time this season. He struck out a season-high 9 while limiting Kansas City to just 4 hits. His counterpart Chris Perry also turned in 7 scoreless innings, keeping the AirHogs to just 5 hits.
Texas became the 1st team on the board in the 8th. Casio Grider singled vs. Kansas City reliever Myles Smith before stealing 2nd and advancing to 3rd on a bounce out. He scored on a close play at the plate following a wild pitch to make it 1-0.
Jacob Morris fired a scoreless 8th before Luis De La Cruz took over in the 9th. The closer got 2 outs before a 2-strike base hit by Cedric Hunter scored Leo Rojas, who walked to start the inning, and tied the game. De La Cruz, who walked 3 in the inning, would strike out Kevin Keyes with the bases loaded to force extras.
In the 10th, the AirHogs got back to back singles from Trevor Sealey and Alvaro Rondon. Grider sacrificed both into scoring position before T-Bones reliever Cody Winiarski struck out Ryan Wagner and Charley Thurber to keep the tie intact.
In the bottom of the 10th, the T-Bones got an infield single, an AirHogs error, and a bloop base hit to right to make it men on the corners with no one out vs. Rob Tasin. Kyle Petty, who had the 1st hit of the inning for the home team, scored on a wild pitch to help Kansas City to its 2nd walkoff of the series.
The AirHogs outhit the T-Bones 9-7 in the game. Tasin slipped to 0-1 with the loss while Winiarski improved to 3-1 with the win. The AirHogs (25-40) travel back to Grand Prairie to open a 3-game set vs. Gary SouthShore (37-29) tomorrow at 6:05. RHP Kevin Hilton (0-0, 1.13 ERA) is expected to start for the AirHogs vs. LHP Alex Gunn (5-4, 4.08 ERA) for the RailCats.
