GRAND PRAIRIE -- Michael Miller went deep, but the Texas AirHogs dropped their 8th straight game Sunday. The Gary SouthShore RailCats scored 3 times in the 1st and never looked back on their way to a 10-1 victory on Pirates and Princesses Night at AirHogs Stadium.
Alex Gunn got the start for the RailCats and turned in his 1st complete game of the season. Gunn twirled 9 innings of 6-hit, 1-run ball to improve to 6-4 on the year. He struck out 5 without allowing a walk. Michael Miller took him deep for his 3rd home run of the season in the 8th.
Kevin Hilton started for the AirHogs and allowed 3 runs on 3 hits in the 1st. He would end up surrendering 6 runs (5 earned) over 5 innings, walking 2 and striking out 4. He fell to 0-1 on the year with the loss. The RailCats racked up 13 hits in the game vs. Hilton, Leuris Gomez, Ryan Wagner and Charley Thurber. The latter 2 each made their professional pitching debuts. Wagner registered a 1-2-3 8th inning before Thurber surrendered 2 runs in the 9th.
The RailCats were led by Colin Willis and Wilfredo Gimenez. The 2 RailCats combined for 6 hits, 5 runs and 5 RBIs. 5 RailCats finished with multi-hit games. Alvaro Rondon was the only AirHog bat to finish with 2 hits off of Gunn. The 2nd baseman has now reached base 6 times in the last 2 evenings. The RailCats now trail Kansas City by 1.5 games in the wild card race.
The AirHogs (25-41) and Gary SouthShore (38-29) meet again tomorrow at 7:05. RHP Austin Kubitza is expected to start for the AirHogs. The starter for Gary is TBA. A live stream of the game will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs and American Association Baseball TV.
