GRAND PRAIRIE -- Trevor Sealey picked up an RBI single, but the Texas AirHogs fell in Game 2 to the RailCats 4-1 Monday at AirHogs Stadium. The team will look to salvage a game in the 3-game series Tuesday behind Jared Mortensen.
Austin Kubitza got the start for Texas and went 4 frames. He surrendered 3 unearned runs in the 3rd but posted scoreless innings in each of his other 3 trips to the mound. All 3 runs in the 3rd came with 2 outs. Randy Santiesteban highlighted the frame with a 2-run homer.
Jorge De Leon got his 1st start of the year for the RailCats and posted 3 scoreless, hitless innings before giving way to Jesse Pratt. The AirHogs boarded 2 in scoring position vs. Pratt in the 5th and another in the 6th but could not break through.
Down 4-0 in the 7th, Jake Taylor picked up the 1st hit of the game for Texas. His single up the middle eventually set Sealey up for his 17th RBI of the season on a single to make it 4-1. The run came off Carlos Diaz. Drasen Johnson picked up his 8th save of the season by pitching scoreless 8th and 9th innings.
The RailCats outhit the AirHogs 5-3 in the game. Scott Firth, Josh Blanco and Rob Tasin combined to allow just 1 run over 5 innings after Kubitza exited. Kubitza dropped to 1-3 with the loss. Pratt, who threw 2 ⅔ innings in immediate relief of De Leon, improved to 2-2 with the win.
The AirHogs (26-41) and Gary SouthShore (39-29) close the set tomorrow at 7:05. RHP Jared Mortensen (3-1, 3.75 ERA) is expected to start for the AirHogs.
