SIOUX FALLS -- The AirHogs dropped the opener of a 4-game set 6-5 in Sioux Falls Thursday. Chris Jacobs was the hero for the Canaries, flaring a single to right in the 9th with the bases loaded to help the home team walk off winners.

Billy Waltrip got the start for the AirHogs with Grady Wood on the mound for the Canaries. Each starter posted 4 straight scoreless frames to begin the evening. The AirHogs then tagged Wood, who entered play with a 2.70 ERA, for 5 runs (5 earned) on 4 hits in the 5th. Alvaro Rondon, Casio Grider and Denis Phipps all picked up RBIs in the frame.

Ty Morrison got the Canaries on the board with a 2-run home run in the bottom half of the 5th. The Canaries would use 3 hits, including an RBI double from Tyler Wolfe and an RBI single from Blake Schmit, to make it 5-4 in the 6th. Rob Tasin entered the inning with 2 outs for Waltrip and stranded 2 aboard for him before going on to post a scoreless 7th.

Jacob Morris pitched a perfect 8th to send the contest to the 9th with Texas still leading by a run. Dan Motl led off the bottom of the 9th against Luis De La Cruz with a surprise bunt for an infield single before Jabari Henry and Morrison reached with a base hit and a walk respectively. With the infield in, Chris Jacobs finished the contest by flaring a single to the edge of the right field grass. The walkoff was the 5th the AirHogs have suffered this season and the 2nd since the All-Star break.

Jake Taylor finished on base 3 times in the game for the AirHogs. Taylor, Grider, and Ryan Wagner finished with 2 hits. Trevor Sealey ran his hitting streak to 7 straight games by going 1 for 3. 6 of the 9 spots reached twice in the game for the Canaries. Each team finished with 10 hits. Sioux Falls benefitted from 8 walks passed out by Texas pitching. Jose Ortega, who pitched a scoreless 9th for Sioux Falls, improved to 4-3 with the win. De La Cruz moved to 0-5 with the loss.
