AirHogs Pile Up 18 Hits In 10-4 Victory Over Canaries

08/04/2017 10:04 PM -

SIOUX FALLS -- The Texas AirHogs racked up a season-high 18 hits and reached base 22 times on the way to a resounding 10-4 victory Friday at Sioux Falls Stadium. TJ Bozeman fired 7 innings of 2-run ball to complement the offense and earn the victory.

Denis Phipps hit the 1st of his 2 home runs in the 1st, a 3-run bomb off his former teammate in Laredo Troy Marks. Marks would last 3 innings, surrendering 7 hits and 6 runs before exiting the game in line for his 6th loss of 2017. Phipps, who added a solo blast in the 3rd, now sits at 8 home runs and 39 RBIs for the season.

Bozeman allowed a 1st inning 2-run home run to Jabari Henry before settling in to face the next 24 batters without allowing a hit. He pitched through the 7th, allowing 4 walks and striking out a season-high 9 while limiting the Canaries to just the 2 runs and 2 hits in the 1st.

The AirHogs would finish with every spot in the order accumulating at least 1 hit. 6 AirHogs players reached twice in the game and 5 reached 3 times. Phipps led the way with 3 hits, including 2 home runs, and 4 RBIs. Alvaro Rondon and Casio Grider each reached 4 times. Michael Miller finished with 3 hits.

Texas scored 7 times over the 1st 4 innings vs. Marks and his relief man Bo Hellquist, who allowed 4 runs on 10 hits pitching into the 8th. Leuris Gomez and Scott Firth pitched behind Bozeman, holding the Canaries to 2 runs, both scored in the 8th, after the starter exited.

Bozeman improved to 4-5 with the win. The loss dropped Marks to 3-6. The 18 hits were a season-high for the AirHogs, as were the 22 times reaching. The AirHogs have now accumulated 38 hits over the last 3 games. The team scored 10 for the 2nd time in a contest this season.

The AirHogs (27-43) look to keep the momentum going tomorrow behind LHP Michael Freeman (3-3, 3.70 ERA). Sioux Falls (32-38) is expected to start RHP Miles Nordgren (4-4, 4.77 ERA). 1st pitch in Game 3 is slated for 6:05 pm. A live broadcast will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs.
