GRAND PRAIRIE -- The Salina Stockade drew level in the 3-game series at AirHogs Stadium Tuesday, downing Texas 6-3 despite a big game from Levi Scott. The 1st baseman finished with 2 hits, 2 RBIs and a run scored in the loss.
Billy Waltrip got the start for the AirHogs and was tagged by Kewby Meyer for a 2-RBI single with 2 outs in the 1st. He would surrender 4 more runs on 4 hits in the 3rd before settling down to allow just 1 hit and 0 runs the rest of the way. Waltrip recorded 6 frames, allowing 6 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits. He surrendered 2 walks and slipped to 1-4 on the season with the loss.
LHP Brian Smith started for Salina and reset his season-high with 10 strikeouts over 7 innings. Scott picked up 2 RBIs in the 4th with a base hit that scored Casio Grider and Charley Thurber. The RBIs were his 28th and 29th of the season. He would add a triple in the 7th before coming in on an RBI groundout by Ryan Wagner to make the score 6-3. Smith left 2 aboard in his 7th and final frame. He improved to 2-10 with the win.
Tyler Herr earned his 6th save of 2017 by stranding 2 more aboard in a scoreless 9th. The visitors outhit the AirHogs 9-5. Every spot in the order reached for the Salina Stockade. The win was the 3rd in 6 games for their new manager Daniel Aldrich.
The AirHogs (29-45) and Stockade (13-61) meet in a rubber match tomorrow at 7:05. RHP TJ Bozeman (4-5, 3.51 ERA) is expected to start for the AirHogs.
