GRAND PRAIRIE -- The Texas AirHogs captured the 4-game series against the Salina Stockade with an impressive 4-0 victory at AirHogs Stadium Wednesday night. The team will go for the series sweep tomorrow at 7:05 pm.

Jared Mortensen moved to 5-0 in the month of August with a superb 7-inning shutout performance in which he struck out 10 to match his season high. For the 3rd straight start, Mortensen did not issue a walk. He improved to 8-1 this season with the win and 4-0 against the Stockade.

The bats built an early lead by scoring twice in the 1st. Casio Grider picked up an RBI on the 1st of his 2 triples in the game, and Denis Phipps added an RBI single. Salina starter Jordan Cummings allowed 2 more runs in the 6th, both unearned as the result of 3 Stockade errors. He dropped to 1-5 with the loss after going 6 and allowing 6 hits and 3 walks to accompany 5 strikeouts.

Mortensen, Luis De La Cruz and Mario Mendoza combined to set aside 16 straight to end the ballgame. Salina did not reach base from the 5th through the 9th. They had just 1 baserunner after the 3rd.

Alvaro Rondon notched a stolen base in the 1st and moved to 49 stolen bases on the season. He is just 8 away (with 12 games to play) from the all-time single season record in the American Association, set by Jovanny Rosario, who swiped 57 for Shreveport-Bossier in 2010. The series win was the 10th of the season for the AirHogs. The game was the 2nd-fastest of 2017 for Texas at just 2:14. The shutout was the 5th of the season for the Texas staff and the first since July 5th.

Texas (37-51) and Salina (16-72) wrap up the 4-game series tomorrow. RHP Leuris Gomez (4-4, 4.44 ERA) is expected to start for Texas. LHP Brian Smith (3-11, 6.45 ERA) is expected to start for Salina. 1st pitch is slated for 7:05.  A live stream of the game will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs and American Association Baseball TV.
