WICHITA -- The Texas AirHogs could not overcome a 7-0 1st inning deficit in Wichita Saturday, falling to the Wingnuts 9-4. Levi Scott hit the 1st grand slam of the season for the AirHogs in the 3rd inning. The teams close the series tomorrow at 1:05 with a rubber match.
Austin Kubitza got the start for Texas and was tagged for 7 runs by the Wingnuts offense in the 1st. The early deficit would prove too much to overcome, and Kubitza dropped to 1-4 in taking the loss. He lasted into the 3rd before giving way to Kevin Hilton, who held the Wingnuts to just 2 hits and 0 runs while striking out 6 in 4.2 innings.
Jordan Cooper picked up the win for Wichita by lasting 5 innings before giving way to a host of Wichita relief men. Scott tagged him for a grand slam in the 3rd to account for all the scoring for the AirHogs. The home run was the 7th of the season for Scott and his 3rd in the last 3 series. It was the 1st grand slam of the season for Texas.
The Wichita attack was led by Leo Vargas, who finished 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs. Brent Clevlen also scored twice for Wichita. Scott finished with 3 hits for the AirHogs. Alvaro Rondon finished with 2 hits and 1 run scored, as did Trevor Sealey.
