AirHogs Return For Final Homestand Of 2017 After 11th Inning Loss In Wichita

WICHITA -- The Texas AirHogs fell in their 2017 road finale Sunday, dropping an extra-inning contest in Wichita by a final of 7-6. The game lasted 11 frames and 3 hours and 36 minutes. It was the 11th time in 19 games that the AirHogs and Wingnuts played a 1-run game in 2017.

The AirHogs got off to a good start when Charley Thurber took righty Eddie Medina for a 2-run home run in the 2nd to put the team on top 2-0. The home run was the 3rd of the season for Thurber at Lawrence Dumont Stadium and his 5th overall.

Wichita tagged AirHogs starter Michael Freeman for 3 runs in the 3rd before Mario Mendoza took over in the 4th. Thurber equalized the score at 3-3 with an RBI base hit in the top of the 4th. Wichita tagged Mendoza for 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th before Ryan Wagner pulled the AirHogs within 5-4 with an RBI single in the 6th.

Wagner picked up another RBI in the 8th with another base hit, this time with 2 outs vs. Wichita relief man James Campbell to tie the game at 5-5. Beamer Weems followed with an RBI single of his own to give the AirHogs the lead.

Rob Tasin pitched the 8th through the 10th for Texas, allowing an RBI double to Brent Clevlen to tie the game in the 8th. Sebastian Murray made his professional debut in the 11th, loading the bases before walking Richard Prigatano to give Wichita a walkoff victory at 7-6.

Thurber finished with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Jake Taylor had 3 hits and scored 3 times. Wagner finished 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs. The Wichita side was led by Matt Chavez, who finished 3 for 5 with 4 RBIs.

Tyler Kane improved to 11-1 with the win after pitching a scoreless top of the 11th while Murray slipped to 0-1 with the loss. Texas (38-54) completes its 2017 season with an 8-game homestand vs. Salina and Cleburne that begins tomorrow. Game 1 vs. the Stockade is scheduled for 5:05 pm. Recently-acquired righty Calvin Drummond (6-3, 4.85 ERA) is expected to start for Texas. RHP Jordan Cummings (1-5, 6.90 ERA) is expected to start for Salina (17-74).
