GRAND PRAIRIE -- The AirHogs made it 2 in a row against the Stockade with a 3-1 victory Tuesday at AirHogs Stadium. Leuris Gomez pitched 8 frames of 1-run ball, and Levi Scott picked up his 100th hit of the season in securing the Game 2 win.
Gomez made his 4th start for the AirHogs his best of the year. He lasted into the 9th, limiting Salina to just 3 hits. He worked around 5 walks and entered the 9th with 99 pitches before giving the ball to Josh Blanco after a leadoff single by Jonathan Moroney. Blanco would eventually load the bases in a 3-1 game before shutting Salina down to notch his 3rd save.
The AirHogs got to David Gates for 2 runs in the 1st on an RBI triple by Ryne Willard and a sacrifice fly by Scott. The Salina starter would then hold the AirHogs scorless through the 6th. Cody Strayer posted a scoreless 7th before Scott picked up his 2nd extra base hit and his 100th overall hit of the year in the 8th vs. Tyler Herr. His double in the final frame to score Willard would provide insurance for Blanco. Gates slipped to 1-1 with the loss. Both decisions have come against the AirHogs.
The AirHogs outhit Salina 7-4 in the game. The contest lasted 2 hours and 20 minutes. Catcher Ryan Wagner caught 2 men stealing. Alvaro Rondon stole a base in the 1st inning to move to 54 swipes this year, just 3 away from tying the all-time single-season American Association record.
Texas (40-54) takes on Salina (18-76) in Game 3 tomorrow. 1st pitch is slated for 11:05 am. RHP TJ Bozeman (6-6, 3.47 ERA) is expected to start for the AirHogs. RHP Josh Hodges (3-5, 5.06 ERA) is expected to start for Salina. A live stream of the game will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs and American Association Baseball TV.
