GRAND PRAIRIE -- Alvaro Rondon set a new American Association single-season record for stolen bases in a 5-4 win for the AirHogs over the Stockade Thursday at AirHogs Stadium. With 4 stolen bases in the game and 58 on the season, Rondon broke a record held by Shreveport-Bossier’s Jovanny Rosario since 2010.
Kevin Hilton got the start for the AirHogs and picked up a complete game win. He scatterd 10 hits, allowing just 1 run before the 8th before a late surge by Salina. He struck out a season-high 8 in earning his 1st win.
Troy Mannebach lasted into the 5th, surrendering 3 runs, all on RBIs by Denis Phipps. Phipps would pick up a 4th RBI in the 7th over relief man Tyler Herr before Ryan Wagner made it 5-1 with an RBI double.
Salina reached 4 straight with 2 outs vs. Hilton in the 8th, culminating in a 3-RBI triple by Javion Randle that made it 5-4. Hilton returned for the 9th and notched a 1-2-3 to finish the game.
Rondon broke the stolen base record by swiping both 2nd and 3rd in the 5th. He finished with 2 runs scored, as did Casio Grider, who registered 3 stolen bases of his own to move into 2nd place in the Association with 37. The sweep was the 1st in a 4-game series for the AirHogs this season and the team’s 3rd overall. Hilton improved to 1-2 with the win. Mannebach dropped to 2-7 with the loss.
