GRAND PRAIRIE -- Alvaro Rondon racked up 4 hits and 3 RBIs, but the AirHogs dropped the penultimate game of the 2017 season to Cleburne 5-3. The teams will play the season finale tomorrow at 1:05.
Leuris Gomez got the start for the AirHogs and allowed a run on 1 hit in the 1st. After though, he held the Railroaders scoreless for 6 straight innings while allowing only 2 more hits before the 8th.
Rondon tied the game at 1 in the 5th vs. Railroaders starter Patrick Mincey with an RBI base hit to score Ryan Wagner. He would pick up 2 more RBIs with another single off Mincey in the 7th, scoring Beamer Weems and Ryan Wagner and giving the AirHogs a 3-1 lead.
In the 8th, the lead would not hold, as Cleburne tagged Gomez and relief man Luis De La Cruz for 4 runs to seize the lead. Gomez, who was credited with 4 of the 5 runs scored in the game, dropped to 5-5 with the loss. Mincey improved to 10-8 with the win.
The Railroaders were led by Maikol Gonzalez, who finished 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored. Winston Abreu notched his 25th save of the season by facing the minimum in the 9th. Alvaro Rondon added a stolen base to his performance, bringing his Association record to 59 for the season. Weems finished with 3 hits, including a double. The AirHogs outhit the Railroaders 10-7.
Texas (42-57) wraps the 2017 season vs. Cleburne (47-51) tomorrow. 1st pitch is slated for 1:05 pm. RHP TJ Bozeman (6-6, 3.48 ERA) is expected to start for the AirHogs.
