What started as a riveting pitchers duel between starting pitchers Zech Lemond and Austin Wright, quickly got out of hand after the 6th and 7th innings saw 11 runs cross for the Chicago Dogs. The AirHogs kept it close through 6 when the score was 2-1, but couldn’t hold on and lost 13-3.
Zech Lemond looked phenomenal today, and played much better than his final stat line would suggest. Lemond was able to keep the game scoreless through the first three innings but ran into a bit of trouble in the fourth. Vavra reached base on a leadoff single, and moved to second two batters later on a dropped third strike to Roache. Kranson then singled putting runners at the corners with two outs in the inning. A pitch then got away from catcher Luan Chenchen allowing Vavra to come across to score the first run of the game and put the Dogs up 1-0.
Lemond ran into trouble in the next inning as well as the leadoff man was able to make it to base off of a dropped third strike that got away from Luan Chenchen allowing Smith to reach base despite striking out. Smith would reach second after a groundout to Lemond from leadoff man Olmedo-Barrera, and was singled home by Jordan Dean to put the Dogs up 2-0.
The AirHogs would answer with a run of their own when Ijames led the 6th inning off with a single. Luo Jinjun would move Ijames over to second with a sacrifice bunt, and a balk would move Ijames to third where he was able to score off a wild pitch making the score 2-1. Unfortunately for the AirHogs Lemond would be pulled in the 7th inning and things got out of hand. 5 runs scored in the 7th inning for the Dogs, and 6 more would come across in the 8th inning to put this game out of reach for the AirHogs even though the would push across two of their own in the 8th to make the score 13-3 which would be the final score.
Zech Lemond went 6.0 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 8 K’s and played much better than his line would suggest. The AirHogs offense couldn’t get anything going all night no matter who was pitching as they struck out 20 times at the plate as a team. The final game of the season series against the Chicago Dogs will be tomorrow with the AirHogs leading the season series 3-2. First pitch will be tomorrow at 6:05 PM with RHP Kevin Hilton getting the start tomorrow for the AirHogs, and he will face off against Chicago Dogs LHP DJ Snelton.
