AirHogs Launch 4 Home Runs For 2nd Win In Lincoln

05/31/2016 11:04 PM -

LINCOLN, Nebraska - The AirHogs went to extra innings for the 2nd straight night with the Lincoln Saltdogs Tuesday and once again came out with a victory. The lineup smacked a season-high 4 home runs to fuel the 10-6 win.

The squad got off to a great start in the 1st, when American Association home run leader Burt Reynolds smashed his 6th bomb of the season off LHP Bennett Parry to score himself and Juan Sanchez, making it 2-0 early.

The Saltdogs equalized the score in the bottom of the 1st inning, tagging AirHogs starter Griffin Russell for a pair of runs on 2 hits. The AirHogs would reassume the lead in the top of the 5th on the 1st home run of the season for 3B Austin Gallagher, a 2-run blast to right that again scored Sanchez.

A 2-RBI double by 3B Christian Ibarra would help the Saltdogs once again draw level in the bottom half of the 5th. CF Michael Hur launched his 4th homer of the season in the 6th and Gallagher made it 6-4 with an RBI single of his own later in the frame to once again inflate the lead to 2.

The Saltdogs tied the score with a homer in the bottom of the 6th by Rene Leveret and another tally in the bottom of the 7th off relief man Richard Suniga. LHP Tyler Ihrig took over on the mound for the AirHogs in the 8th, firing the first of 3 scoreless innings on his way to earning his first W of the season out of the bullpen.

After Ihrig escaped a 2-on, 1-out jam in the 9th and set the Saltdogs down 1-2-3 in the 10th, the AirHog offense came alive in the 11th. The team loaded the bases with 1 out and reassumed the advantage on a wild pitch that allowed RF Nick Akins to score from 3rd. Brian Bistagne tore the game open shortly thereafter with a 3-run blast to left field off Saltdog relief man Jeff McKenzie. The home run was the 17th of the season for the AirHogs and helped the offense surpass St. Paul for most team home runs in the American Association this season.

Carlos Misell pitched the 11th, inducing the 3rd double play of the game for the AirHog defense to seal the win. The team posted an errorless night. The Saltdog defense, which entered play leading the league in fielding percentage, committed an uncharacteristic 3 errors, one of which allowed Akins to reach in the top of the 11th.

The AirHogs (6-6) meet the Saltdogs (6-6) once again tomorrow at Haymarket Park. Start time is scheduled for 6:35 pm. LHP Ethan Carnes, who ranks 3rd among American Association starters with a 0.73 ERA, is expected to start.

A live radio broadcast of the game will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs.
