JOPLIN, Missouri - Brian Bistagne went deep twice and Griffin Russell picked up his first win in an 8-1 series finale victory in Joplin Sunday afternoon. The team scored 7 runs over the last 3 innings to salvage a contest in the 3-game set with the Blasters.
3B Austin Gallagher scored CF Michael Hur on an RBI groundout in the first to give the lefty starter Russell an early advantage. In his best outing of the year, Russell lasted 6 and struck out 8. He surrendered his lone tally in the 5th on an RBI base hit by 2B Mitch Glasser. He bore down after, stranding 4 over his final 2 frames to send the contest to the 7th tied at 1.
Jose Ortega, the 2nd reliever for Blaster starter Noel Arguelles, allowed a leadoff home run to Bistagne to make it 2-1 in the top of the 7th. He would board both Will DuPont and Michael Hur before Austin Gallagher and Devon Rodriguez tagged him for RBIs on a sacrifice fly and a single up the middle respectively.
DuPont would go deep in the 8th for his 1st home run of the year, and Bistagne would add a 2-run blast in the 9th, his 4th of the year, to seal the 5th road win of the season for the AirHogs.
Russell for got the win and Ortega took the loss. It was the 2nd multi-homer game of the series for the AirHogs and the 3rd time this season the team has scored at least 8 runs. DuPont reached in all 4 plate appearances, and Hur finished with 2 runs scored. Gallagher finished with his 2nd multi-RBI game of the road trip. Each team stranded 10 men in the game.
The AirHogs (7-10) meet the St. Paul Saints (12-4) for the opener of a 3-game set at Potter County Memorial Stadium in Amarillo. LHP Ethan Carnes is expected to get the start. First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm.
