06/11/2016 9:49 PM -

AMARILLO, Texas - The Texas AirHogs scored 6 unanswered runs from the 5th to the 8th, tying the score vs. Wichita at 6 Saturday before ultimately falling by a single tally. An RBI base hit by Martin Medina would help the Wingnuts win 7-6 and clinch a series victory in Amarillo.

Ethan Carnes got the start for the AirHogs. For the 3rd straight game, the Wingnuts were able to get on the board in the top of the 1st, this time on an RBI double by 2B Christian Stringer. They would add another tally in the 4th on an RBI double by Brennen Salgado before exploding for 4 runs on 5 hits in the top of the 5th to go up 6-0.

The AirHogs refused to go quietly though. After failing to score in the first 4 frames vs. Wichita starter Eddie Medina, LF Burt Reynolds broke up the shutout bid with a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 5th. The blast was the American Association-leading 10th of the year for Reynolds.

DH Will DuPont brought in C Mike Miller with a sacrifice fly in the 6th, and then Miller himself drove in SS Juan Sanchez and Reynolds in the bottom of the 7th with a base hit to make it 6-5.

Needing a run in the 8th to tie the game, the AirHogs got a leadoff walk from DuPont. He moved to 3rd on a single by CF Michael Hur and came in to score when Sanchez sent a sacrifice fly to right.

In the 9th though, the Wingnuts put a stop to the AirHogs’ momentum. DH Brent Clevelen led off with a double against Carlos Misell and advanced to 3rd on a groundout to the right side. C Martin Medina then reclaimed the lead with a base hit to left.

Trailing 7-6 against Wichita relief man Frankie Reed in the bottom of the 9th, the AirHogs got a leadoff single from Austin Gallagher but would get no closer, falling for the 3rd time vs. Wichita and the 4th straight game overall.

Misell, who surrendered 1 run over 2 innings, took the loss, while Fabian Roman, who finished the 7th and surrendered the Sanchez sacrifice fly in the 8th, picked up the win. Reed got the save. The AirHogs (9-14) complete the series tomorrow vs. Wichita (12-11) with RHP Palmer Betts on the mound. Start time is slated for 2:05 pm.
